Why Hike?

If you’re like me and sometimes the idea of being inside a flourescent-lit gym with a bunch of people grunting and throwing weights around makes you want to NEVER workout… try out a hike! And why hike, might you ask?..

There are SO MANY benefits to working up a sweat outdoors! You’ll get your vitamin D in, get some beautiful scenery, and have fun.

Chantal and I decided to go on a hike with her two pups recently at Arbor Hills Nature Preserve in Plano. Side note: if you have dogs, they absolutely love it, too.

We hiked up to an outlook point that gives you a gorgeous view. Hiking is a great way to get some sweating in and have some quality time with a girlfriend or your SO.. or just go on your own and have some quality time with yourself!

In addition to having a peaceful workout, I find that being with nature is so important for mental health! Being outdoors has been shown to decrease anxiety/sadness.. and everyone needs that now and then. Having a clear mind also helps you be so much more productive during the day; which is why I LOVE a good early morning hike!

Even if you don’t live in an area with a ton of hiking spots (I’m jealous of you, California!), you can still find a nice park to go on a walk in, or even just take a stroll around your neighborhood. I’m also definitely NOT a runner for the record, but hiking is still fun for me since it feels like a leisurely morning! So don’t knock it til you try it!
